La Chancleta Voladora (The Flying Flip Flop) es una editorial independiente de fotografía con sede en San Francisco, fundada por Luis Cobelo en 2021. Nos enfocamos en dar visibilidad a artistas y fotógrafos latinoamericanos—del Sur, Centro y Norte de América, así como del Caribe—ofreciéndoles espacio y proyección, especialmente en Estados Unidos. Nuestros fotolibros exploran historias personales y colectivas, poniendo en primer plano comunidades minoritarias, identidades étnicas e indígenas, y tensiones políticas, mientras celebran la diversidad a través de narrativas visuales audaces y el uso de medios mixtos.
La Chancleta Voladora (The Flying Flip Flop) is an independent photography publisher based in San Francisco, founded by Luis Cobelo in 2021. We focus on giving visibility to Latin American artists and photographers—from South, Central, and North America, as well as the Caribbean—by offering them space and exposure, especially in the United States.
Our photobooks explore personal and collective stories, foregrounding minority communities, ethnic and Indigenous identities, and political tensions, while celebrating diversity through bold visual narratives and the use of mixed media.
Va a llover toda la noche es un fotolibro de la fotógrafa mexicano-estadounidense Alicia Vera, publicado por La Chancleta Voladora en una edición limitada de 300 ejemplares. La obra nace del proceso personal de la autora al enfrentar el diagnóstico de Alzheimer de su madre, Concepción, en 2018. Este proyecto se convierte en una exploración íntima de la pérdida ambigua: la desaparición de una persona que permanece físicamente presente pero cuya identidad se desvanece lentamente.
A través de una combinación de fotografías, ephemera familiar (como cartas, dibujos y objetos personales) y textos, Vera crea una narrativa visual que documenta su experiencia emocional y la transformación de la relación madre-hija frente a la enfermedad. El título, Va a llover toda la noche, refleja la sensación de incertidumbre y la necesidad de retener recuerdos en medio del cambio irreversible.
Este fotolibro ha sido presentado en diversas exposiciones y ferias de libros de arte, incluyendo la New York Art Book Fair y el ICP Photobook Fest, destacándose por su enfoque sensible y artístico hacia un tema profundamente humano y contemporáneo.
«Va a llover toda la noche» is a photobook by Mexican-American photographer Alicia Vera, published by La Chancleta Voladora in a limited edition of 300 copies. The work emerges from the author’s personal process of confronting her mother Concepción’s Alzheimer diagnosis in 2018. This project becomes an intimate exploration of ambiguous loss: the disappearance of a person who remains physically present but whose identity gradually fades.
Through a combination of photographs, family ephemera (such as letters, drawings, and personal objects), and texts, Vera creates a visual narrative that documents her emotional experience and the transformation of the mother-daughter relationship in the face of illness. The title, «Va a llover toda la noche», reflects the sense of uncertainty and the need to hold onto memories amid irreversible change.
This photobook has been presented in various exhibitions and art book fairs, including the New York Art Book Fair and the ICP Photobook Fest, standing out for its sensitive and artistic approach to a deeply human and contemporary subject.
