Es importante para el desarrollo de la obra plástica de Esmelyn Miranda; la identificación, recolección y selección de recursos, materias sensibles, así como sus diferentes experiencias prácticas, el entorno y su contexto, materias que generan precarios equilibrios entre urbanidad y resistencia, entre ecologías y necesidad.
Estas materias y experiencias están relacionada a la idea de memoria, a la experiencia colectiva, al instinto de superar una necesidad, el material es testigo de la crisis y su transformación es resultado de ella, los libros se construyen con elementos materiales contenedores de diferentes experiencias en tanto son resultados de la interacción social que la potencian y transforman su carácter utilitario.
Bajo el concepto de: «Conjunto de hojas unidas formando un volumen que se rellena con distintos datos para llevar un registro», se construye la serie de libros arte con materiales rescatados de espacios y contextos sensibilizados por las crisis, estos libros/objetos aparecen desde la perspectiva de la materia residual como contenedora de información y experiencias y con ella aludir a la idea de memoria colectiva afectada por la precariedad de estos entornos. Así; Sacos, bolsas, papel, plásticos que pertenecieron a espacios específicos se transforman en potenciales objetos que pueden «leerse»
It is essential for the development of Esmelyn Miranda’s visual work to identify, collect, and select resources, sensitive materials, and practical experiences, as well as to engage with her surroundings and context. These elements generate fragile balances between urbanity and resistance, between ecologies and necessity.
These materials and experiences are tied to the idea of memory, to collective experience, to the instinct to overcome need. The material itself bears witness to crisis, and its transformation is a result of it. The books are built with material elements that contain different experiences, as they are the outcome of social interactions that amplify and transform their utilitarian character.
Based on the concept of «a set of pages bound together forming a volume that is filled with various data to keep a record», the artist constructs a series of art books using materials salvaged from spaces and contexts affected by crisis. These book-objects emerge from the perspective of residual matter as a container of information and experiences, evoking the idea of collective memory shaped by the precariousness of these environments. Thus, sacks, bags, paper, and plastics that once belonged to specific spaces are transformed into potential objects that can be «read».
Este grupo de Libros que pertenecen a la serie Flexibles obedecen a una temporalidad y eventual acercamiento al fenómeno migratorio , independientemente de cualquiera de sus causas y diferencias entre sí, en diferentes zonas geográficas de Sudamérica, tales como Chile, Colombia, Perú, Ecuador y Venezuela, desde el año 2017 hasta el 2022. Donde pude reunir las bolsas o sacos a los que llamé materia sensible, estos fueron reunidos por intercambio o trueque, directamente de la comunidad que se mueve en distintas direcciones y por diferentes motivos. Estos sacos forman parte vital de ese viaje e intercambio cultural que sucede de manera accidentada pero continua, siendo esta una materia que permite una transformación y resignificación tanto en su utilidad como en su identidad.
Se intervinieron con bordados individualizados para mejor identificación y como proyecto de movilidad de mi obra. En su mayoría los bordados con los que se intervinieron los sacos son representativos de las diferentes regiones donde se abordó el proyecto y en otros tantos fueron tomados de dibujos y diseños propuestos por migrantes.
La búsqueda de identificar nuevas formas, actividades y materiales que se han integrado a espacios y comunidades y que aparecen como una revitalización de los intercambios de experiencias, tienen la intención de hacer visible lo permeable de nuestras culturas y territorios.
This group of books belonging to the «Flexibles» series responds to a temporality and a specific engagement with the phenomenon of migration —regardless of its causes and differences— across various geographical areas of South America, including Chile, Colombia, Peru, Ecuador, and Venezuela, from 2017 to 2022. During this period, I gathered bags or sacks that I called «sensitive matter». These were collected through exchange or barter directly with communities moving in different directions and for diverse reasons. These sacks are a vital part of that journey and of the cultural exchange that takes place in an uneven yet ongoing way, becoming a material that allows for transformation and resignification both in its utility and in its identity.
They were intervened with individualized embroidery for better identification and as a way to mobilize my work. Most of the embroideries used to intervene the sacks are representative of the different regions where the project was carried out, while others were based on drawings and designs proposed by migrants themselves.
The search for new forms, activities, and materials integrated into spaces and communities—emerging as a revitalization of shared experiences—is intended to make visible the permeability of our cultures and territories.
