Reunión
Reunión es un experimento de escucha y escritura que el artista argentino Dani Zelko viene impulsando junto a mucha otra gente desde 2015. Se materializa en libros que intervienen en disputas y conflictos urgentes. A través de encuentros personales, las voces de distintas personas son transcritas a mano, corregidas colectivamente, impresas, leídas en voz alta en actos públicos y distribuidas en sus territorios específicos y más allá. A continuación detallo el procedimiento y las diferentes series producidas hasta hoy, que son de libre circulación y están disponibles online y en papel.
Reunión is a listening and writing experiment initiated by Argentine artist Dani Zelko together with many others since 2015. It takes shape in books that engage with urgent disputes and conflicts. Through personal encounters, the voices of different people are transcribed by hand, collectively edited, printed, read aloud in public events, and distributed both within their specific territories and beyond. Below is a description of the process and the different series produced so far, which are freely circulated and available both online and in print.
Reunión: LENGUA O MUERTE.
Razib, Afroza y Elahi son migrantes. Nacieron en Bangladesh, viven en Madrid. El 26 de marzo, en medio de la crisis por el Covid-19, Mohamed Hossein, un paisano suyo, murió en su confinamiento después de llamar durante seis días a los sistemas de salud y emergencia. Ningún médico fue a atenderlo, ninguna ambulancia lo fue a buscar, hablaba poco español. Desde entonces, junto a otras organizaciones migrantes y sociales, están armando un movimiento por la lengua, exigiendo traducción oral obligatoria en centros de salud, escuelas, juzgados, oficinas del Estado. Interpretación ya para entender lo que les dicen, para hacerse entender, para vivir en su lengua.
Durante abril de 2020 les llamé por teléfono. Me hablaron y escuché. Hice unas pocas preguntas y sonidos para que sepan que estaba ahí. Grabé sus voces. Apenas cortamos, las hice sonar y las escribí. Cada vez que hicieron una pausa para inhalar, pasé a la línea que sigue. Borré las grabaciones, les mandé los textos y los corregimos. Armamos este libro que es distribuido por la comunidad. Cuenta una versión digital, un audiolibro de descarga gratuita y fue traducido a 10 lenguas.

Razib, Afroza, and Elahi are migrants. They were born in Bangladesh and live in Madrid. On March 26, in the midst of the Covid-19 crisis, Mohamed Hossein, a fellow countryman, died in his confinement after calling health and emergency services for six days. No doctor came to attend him, no ambulance came to pick him up, and he spoke little Spanish. Since then, together with other migrant and social organizations, they have been building a movement for language rights, demanding mandatory oral translation in health centers, schools, courts, and government offices. Interpretation now, to understand what they are told, to make themselves understood, to live in their language.
In April 2020, I called them on the phone. They spoke to me and I listened. I asked a few questions and made some sounds to let them know I was there. I recorded their voices. As soon as we hung up, I transcribed them. Every time they paused to inhale, I moved to the next line. I deleted the recordings, sent them the texts, and we corrected them together. We created this book, which is distributed by the community. There is also a digital version, a freely downloadable audiobook, and it has been translated into 10 languages.
